A new cake recipe

Yesterday I made this cake out of GOURMET. It was so good and really easy to make, especially the frosting. Perfect for a summer dessert, especially with fresh raspberries. I actually used the berries that I picked myself last week.

SO, I am sure you are all sitting at the edge's of your seat wondering how the jambalaya went, well, it was VERY good. It was spicy and yummy. I did change one thing, instead of chicken and ham I used chicken sausage. I also made homemade cornbread to go along with it.

Tour de France

So we have been watching the Tour de France everyday. Yesterday was a rest day and today they start the Alps, which is all of the mountain stages. Its on right now, but we are taping it. J's bro is coming over and I am making Jambalaya for dinner (its raining).

I will let you know how it comes out, I am excited to make it.

Piper and her not so friendly "friend"

So, last night, we let Piper out before we go up to bed, like every other night, only this night was different. Piper thought she was making a new friend, when this black and white friend blasted her with an unpleasant smell....yup, Piper was skunked.

You would think that when your dog gets sprayed by a skunk, it smells like that all to familiar stink, NOPE, so much worse. It smells so bad, I don't even know how to describe it. To make matters worse, it is an oil that they basically spray at you, which makes it much harder to clean. Thank goodness J picked her up and brought her into the kitchen rather than letting her walk into the house, or she would have gotten the oils everywhere and the house would have been a disaster (also because the oils are red as well). I called the emergency 24 hour vet (because Piper had gotten sprayed in the face). We were told to flush out her eyes and mouth with lots of water. Her eyes were burning, and she was drooling. To get the smell off of her you mix 32 oz. hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda and 2 tablespoons of blue Dawn dish washing soap. So there I was at the grocery store at 11:30 last night with 3 bottles of peroxide and soap. The guy behind me thought I was dying my hair...hahaha. Anyway, we mixed that concoction together and it worked really well. She doesn't smell at all. We are going to giver her one more bath in that stuff to just make sure she doesnt smell.

The house smelled really bad last night too, but I think only because Piper was in the house. We kept all of the windows and doors open all night and the house is smelling much better.

Vermont Brewers Fest

Last night we went to the Vermont Brewers Fest. It was the 17th annual, but my first. It ended up being a great evening and a lot of fun. The Festival features 37 craft brewers from Vermont, New York, New Hampshire, Mass, Maine, DE and to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of the European discovery of Lake Champlain by Samuel de Champlain, breweries from La Belle province, Quebec. This outdoor festival takes place in Burlington Waterfront Park with scenic views of Lake Champlain framed by the Adirondack Mountain Range.

Last night sold out days in advance, that's 3500 tickets. It was $25 a ticket and you get a tasting glass and 15 drink tickets. Most beers are 1 ticket, those with alcohol content above 8.1% are 2 tickets. A lot of the time I didn't give up a ticket unless they asked :)



My favorite beers were: Harpoon Blackberry Wheat (served with blackberries)
Magic Hat's 2009 Odd Notion (Belgian-style blonde ale)
Saranac Summer Brew (which consists of lager and lemonade)
And of course Switchback

Fuse won the 2009 Grand Ex Award at the Event Marketer awards a few months ago. This month we were featured in EM.

Tour de France

We have been watching alot of the tour this year and really getting into it.
While watching it this evening there was a segment about a new organization that was set up by the US team manager (I think). It is called "Yield to Life". It seems like a great org. There have been many times that I have almost been hit by a car while riding. This site gives you tips for both the cyclist and the driver. Check it out: www.yieldtolife.org

4th of July

The 4th of July started out rainy and cloudy and slowly improved. Friday the 3rd we are usually out on the boat for the fireworks, but it was raining (POURING with thunderstorms for most of the day) this year, so we went to a friends friends place on the waterfront.


Saturday the 4th was a little cloudy with some good "sucker holes", patches of sun that convince you to go out of the boat. We got out and were able to find a good cove to float around in. Ended up not being too bad that day. Later that night we went and watched the Colchester fireworks and then went and had a bonfire and our friends campsite.

Sunday the 5th was BEAUTIFUL. We were out on the boat by 11am. Is was the perfect Day.

So I totally suck at writing new posts lately. You would think being unemployed I would have more time for it and therefore be better at it, truth is, not at all. I have been super busy lately doing stuff around the house and running errands and working out of course! I am not in front of my computer much, which is why I suck lately. I am going to try to be much better at this, I promise. Following this post will be a few new ones....

Yummmo Dinner

Last night we had some friends over for dinner.
I made Coconut-Crusted Chicken with Cashew-Curry sauce. It was from the May 2009 issue of Cooking Light. It was SO good, and pretty easy to make. I prepped the chicken before everyone arrived. When we were ready to start cooking I just had to throw it on teh skillet. I also prepped everything for the sause, so I just had to add it to the skillet and not have to worry about measuring and chopping anything. To go along with the meal we had a bottle of Alpha Omega Sauvignon Blanc, which was just as delicious.

Alpha Omega is the wine club that I am in. They are in Napa Valley, but they do not distribute their wine, so you can't buy it anywhere, which makes it a nice treat to have, especially when sharing with friends! My friend Heather introduced me to this vineyard when I visited San Fran in January.
